Something's Fishy at Bates High: Carrie Inspired Spaghetti with Clam Sauce

Greetings, Witches! Welcome back to Let's Cook GF and Book AF. I apologize that I haven't posted in a while, I've been so busy with midterms! Now that that scariness is over, I have to to focus on a much better kind of horror... Halloween! As this is one of my favorite holidays, I thought it absolutely necessary to do a two-part Halloween blog post series. So, if you like what you see this week, then make sure to return next week to see part two!
With that being said, for week one of the Halloween cooking and booking spectacular, I chose Carrie by none other Stephen King. This is King's first novel, and it is definitely one of his most memorable. Who can forget a telekinetic teen who gets drenched in pig's blood at her own prom? Absolutely no one. However, in case you did forget, of course I will give you a recap.
Carrie is a terrifying story that follows Carrie White, an outcasted high schooler in Maine, who frequently gets tormented by her peers. The book opens up with Carrie among the other girls from her class in the locker room post-PE. Carrie is oh-so-lucky to get her first period in this moment and the other girls do NOT let her off easy. Carrie thinks she's dying because her psychotic and Jesus-obsessed mother didn't tell her what a period was, and her state of panic draws the attention of her female peers. The girls end up showering Carrie with tampons shouting "PLUG IT UP!" in the most aggressive way possible. Even though this bullying is absolutely unacceptable, this was not my first thought during this scene. The first thing I thought of was "Do they know how expensive tampons are?! They shouldn't be wasting that shit!" Carrie definitely should've pocketed all of those tampons and totally would've been set for the rest of her (short 😁) life. As the book progresses, Carrie discovers that she has telekinetic powers (woah!) and she quickly goes from an amateur telekinetic to an absolute master. It's pretty darn cool. The one girl who may actually have a heart in this story, Susie Snell, offers up her own boyfriend for Carrie to take to prom, which gives Carrie the most happiness that she's ever experienced in her (short 😁) life.
Carrie lives the dream in the first half of prom, punch and slow dances and all. Carrie then gets announced as Bates' High prom queen, and the biggest witch of them all, Chris Hargensen, goes through with her elaborate scheme to get Carrie humiliated in front of the entire school. As Carrie receives her obligatory prom queen crown and bouquet, Chris releases a huge bucket of pig's blood right on top of of Carrie's head from the rafters of the stage. After this happens, all HELL breaks looks. Carrie uses her telekinetic powers and literally starts killing people. She throws people across the room, breaks their necks by just looking at them, and lights the entire gymnasium aflame. She even defies gravity and flies looking for more victims.
That's all I'm going to say for now, I don't want to spoil it all!
This may be a stretch, but Carrie's stringy hair drenched in blood looks just like spaghetti doused in a red marinara sauce. Soo appetizing right? I decided to include clams in the dish to make it nice and fishy, just like the drama that was stirring within the walls of Carrie's home and school.
Without further ado, here's the recipe!
Carrie Inspired Spaghetti with Clam Sauce

Ingredients
4 cloves chopped garlic
3 tablespoons olive oil
2/3 large can of crushed tomato
1 small can of minced clams (I used Bumble Bee)
1/2 box of GF spaghetti (I used Barilla)
A dozen fresh clams
Directions
1. Place olive oil and chopped garlic in pan and heat and stir for a minute.
2. Add canned clams and stir for 2 minutes.
3. Add tomato, place lid on top of pan, and let simmer for about 30 minutes so that the sauce will thicken.
4. Add fresh clams, they will open in 15-20 minutes.
5. Using a pot boil water and cook pasta for 8 minutes.
6. Drain pasta and put it in the pan with the sauce so it's all mixed together.
7. Enjoy!
This weekend I'm actually seeing Carrie as a musical! I'm so excited!
