Oreo Milkshakes for Homo Sapiens!

Cook Rating: ★★★★★      Book Rating: ★★★★★

Greetings loved ones! I've decided to write about Becky Albertalli's Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda this week! It is honestly one of the cutest books that I've ever read, because of the genuine nature of the protagonist and the heart-wrenching love story within its pages. Simon is a junior in high school with a loving family, eclectic friends, and heavy involvement in school theater. Despite these comfortable aspects of his life, Simon has one secret--he is gay. Simon's only outlet for expressing his true identity is through anonymous email conversations with "Blue," another gay closeted teen who happens to go to the same high school as him. The two establish an intense and emotional online relationship and they agree to never reveal who they are to each other as it a) could potentially ruin their relationship and b) would put them at risk to be outed to their entire school. This book is defined by this complex camaraderie, its insightful look into the struggles of LGBTQ+ youth, as well as friendship and family.

This week was quite busy, so I decided to make something quick, easy, but still delicious. Simon expresses many times throughout the novel that his favorite food is Oreos, and he eats them any chance he gets. With this in mind, I made an Oreo milkshake that Simon would die over! It only took a few ingredients in a blender and some added toppings and boom! A divine oreo milkshake that looks like it could definitely be sold in a trendy NYC restaurant for $15. There is no way that this will be my only time making myself one of these, it was just that tasty!

Directions for Simon-worthy Oreo Milkshakes (makes 1-2 milkshakes)

Ingredients
9 GF Oreos (I love Glutino brand or Jojo's from Trader Joes!)
3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
1/4 cup Milk
Chocolate syrup
Whipped cream

Directions
1. Cut up 8 oreos into smaller pieces (so that they won't get stuck in blender).
2. Place chopped oreos, milk, and ice cream into blender and blend.
3. Make a ring of chocolate syrup around the circumference of the inside of your glass, making an oozy chocolate drizzle.
4. Pour milkshake in glass.
5. Add whipped cream, more chocolate syrup, and chop up the remaining oreo as a topping.
6. Start sipping!

P.S. I used the Yankee cup as a good luck charm, but I guess it didn't work! It was a great season though, can't wait for April!

"The way I feel about him is like a heartbeat, soft and persistent underlying everything."

  2. Wow, really thought that milkshake was from a diner! Looks super good. Will definitely try it out and the book seems like an interesting read too. Wish the Yankee cup worked too!
